Solar Installation – UTAC MK, Milton Keynes
  • Date: 19 September 2025
  • Client: UTAC MK
  • Project Type: Solar PV System

Project Overview

We successfully delivered a 217.8kWp solar photovoltaic (PV) system at UTAC Millbrook, a leading automotive testing and technology facility. The installation consisted of 484 high-efficiency solar modules, covering a total area of 967.1m², designed to significantly reduce the site’s carbon footprint and energy costs.

Scope of Works

Our team was responsible for the complete design, supply, and installation of the DC and AC systems, including:

  • Mounting and cabling of 484 solar panels
  • Installation of inverters and DC isolators
  • Testing, commissioning, and system verification in accordance with current electrical standards

System Details

  • Total Capacity: 217.8kWp
  • Number of Modules: 484
  • Total Array Area: 967.1m²
  • Specific Annual Yield: 916.41 kWh/kWp
  • Estimated Annual Generation (AC Grid): 199,749 kWh
  • Inverter Type: High-efficiency string inverters with integrated monitoring
  • Mounting System: Roof-mounted, corrosion-resistant containment

Challenges & Solutions

Working within an operational automotive testing environment required careful planning and coordination. Specifically due to the confidential nature of the sight. We scheduled works to minimise disruption to daily site activities and ensured all safety protocols were followed rigorously.

Additionally, precision in cable management and installation was critical for long-term maintenance efficiency - achieved through meticulous planning and quality assurance inspections.

Outcome

The project was completed on time and to specification, delivering a high-performing renewable energy system that provides substantial energy savings and sustainability benefits for UTAC Millbrook. The installation supports the site’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and demonstrates the effectiveness of solar technology in industrial applications.
